
Negin Zomorodi is an Iranian composer, improviser, and educator whose interdisciplinary approach to music blends tradition with innovation. With a background that spans classical composition, improvisation, poetry, and visual art, she is recognized for her unique voice in contemporary music and her ability to bridge Eastern and Western musical idioms.Currently pursuing a PhD in Communication and Cultural Industry at Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) in Spain, Negin holds a Master’s degree in Music Composition from Tehran University of Art and completed advanced studies in harmony and theory at The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. She also holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Textile Engineering, reflecting her multidisciplinary curiosity and analytical rigor.Negin has served as a lecturer at several institutions, including the University of Applied Science and Technology and Tehran University of Art, where she taught subjects such as counterpoint, music analysis, and composition. In 2018, she founded Gozar Music Academy in Tehran, serving as CEO and providing a platform for nurturing young musicians. She also offers orchestration and instrumentation courses through platforms like Udemy, reaching a global audience.Her compositions have been performed internationally, from the University of Oklahoma and the Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra to Nordic Black Theatre in Oslo and Arraymusic in Toronto.
Notable recent performances include Bisotoon (2024), a collaborative opera project featuring BIPOC composers, and Lover Fish, a multidisciplinary improvisational piece presented at both UV Cultura in Valencia and the Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra’s annual festival.Negin’s compositional style is deeply informed by Persian music, often interwoven with contemporary forms, experimental textures, and poetic concepts. Her works, such as The Dancing Shadows, and The Rebellious Shadow, have appeared in major festivals and recitals across Europe, the US, and Iran. Her published works include the book The Epopee of Memories, featuring music by six Iranian composers, and several other publications that span poetry, music pedagogy, and cultural criticism. Her article The Cultural Constraint Which Leads to Musical Flourishing was featured in MujerArt Magazine in Spain. She has also explored the challenges of being a female composer in Iran through essays and academic presentations.Negin has been a featured guest in international platforms such as Deutschlandfunk, Sonic Tehran, and Eunoia, where she discusses cultural identity, gender, and music.
