LIMBO | 2020
Limbo is an art performance with the purpose of showing the limbo
Expressing sympathy with all humankind, regardless of any nationality or geography is the purpose of this project.
In the contemporary art world, every art work is a "proposal" to the audience. .This project is aimed to portray worldly limbo” with collaboration of a pianist and a performer.
This project is designed as a trip for the audience. It will pass through the five stages of birth, love, war, migration and middle age .For each step of the journey, the music and dance improvised by the composer and dancer simultaneously. This contemporary composition featuring layers of sound effects .The pianist sit on her two knees ,sit cross_legged or stand up to play the piano to avoid rutin way of playing to show the contemporary complicated life and brings an eerie atmosphere to the audience.Performer inspiration of that music visualized their worldly limbo .
Limbo performance is a reaction to passive modern human beings who are in suspension from the moment of birth until death. At every stage of our short life - birth, love, migration, war, aging- we inevitably experience limbo .
▪️Every person's first experience of limbo is the moment of birth.
In the first scene , the performer shows the moment of brith , where human beings cantolerate neither light nor darkness. exactly the time he enter into the strange and unknown world from his mother's womb. It seems he prefer to get back to his safe cocoon.
▪️Also, there is no escape from love for anyone. We look forward to reaching pure love
in second scene ,the performer shows the struggle and hope of a human being to embrace the loved one and bear the grief of parting. Such a long way for the lovers, is nothing but limbo.
▪️On the other hand, humans on every spot of this earth are involved with inescapable war. Pitched battles, air and ground wars, cyber and bio wars, Satellites, nuclear weapons.No one on this planet is immune from this bloody limbo.
In the third scene , the performer shows the anxiety, anger, sorrow of prisoners, refugees, quarantine people whom added to the world every day.
▪️These days,Millions of people are migrating and leaving their homeland in the dream of reaching their utopia. They face endless culture shock and social differences.
In the fourth scene , the performer shows the Immigrants experience of limbo . Duality between abandoning their home land and setting their heart on the new land with the hope of growth and success. The pianist express Contemporary human spirit with her music . She shows the conflict between material and spiritual life.
▪️Finally, the crisis of aging; a glance at the end of life and a glance at the memories in the past. At this time, which is called Empty Nest Syndrome, our nest is devoid of children and friends;
On the days of house confinement, when the heads of the corona virus war have exiled the prisoners to their rooms, I thought of creating a work of art named as "limbo". During these days of anxiety, when the streets and our cities are placed under curfew, I decided to invite some artist friends, who were locked up in their homes too, to express and picture these limbo days through the virtual world.
Since these days we are in such a long limbo, hoping to pass it in the end, I asked every artist to show a part of the limbo in a corner of their room and film these moments with a cell phone.
